Bristol and Edinburgh named best places to live in UK

Bristol and Edinburgh have been named as the two best places to live in the UK following a review of the nation's 12 largest cities.

According to the Quality of Living Index from MoneySuperMarket, adults residing in Bristol enjoy the highest quality of living, with the Scottish city taking the second spot.

The report considered how the enduring effect of the recent economic downturn has impacted the UK's biggest cities over the last 12 months, as well as various other factors such as activity in the housing market and the cost of renting property.

Financial matters, including disposable income growth and salary, were also looked at in the report, as well as rates of unemployment and more general life satisfaction measures.

Using figures from the Office for National Statistics and various house price trackers, it was determined that Bristol - home to the highest rate of disposable income growth, a low unemployment rate and an above average employee salary - is the number one place to live, with a quality of living index score of 0.725.

Edinburgh claimed the second spot with a rate of 0.697 and was followed in the rundown by Cardiff (0.659), Liverpool (0.629), Leeds (0.587) and Manchester (0.585). London was only able to earn seventh position, finishing above Belfast, Glasgow, Birmingham, Sheffield and Bradford.
