A rare opportunity to acquire a former windmill and pump house, situated in a rural location on the banks of the River Bure, close to the heart of the Norfolk Broads. The Mill is believed to be one of the older mills before being heightened, possibly in 1814 (a date found in carvings in the brickwork inside). Internally the mill has four storeys plus top level inside the boat cap roof with a door opening to a balcony. We have been advised that the mill was converted into a weekend retreat in 1958, but in 'a spartan manner' and in 1978 the mill was struck by lightening and the sails subsequently removed. The Seller has advised that some parts of the mill, including wood for the sails, are stored, however, interested parties must rely on their own enquiries

A 3 bed Grade II listed detached character house with mill building, situated in a rural location on the edge of this small hamlet, set in 3.724 acres of land and grounds, requiring refurbishment and improvement. The house was largely built in the 17th century. Although the Mill has not ground corn for nearly a hundred years and the steel water wheel has gone, the mill race is still in place and the three storey mill has been little changed. Water power came from the river which runs along the east of the property bounding the meadow and fishing rights are enjoyed along this 200 metre river frontage. The house, which forms a 'T' with the mill, has many interesting character features including two inglenook fireplaces and original flagstones through much of the ground floor. In the grounds there are the remains of a formerly thatched, stone wall barn. Now requiring full refurbishment and improvement the property is an excellent opportunity to purchase a unique and extremely interesting project which are now becoming increasingly rare to find.

Auction date: Thu, 30/07/2015 - 15:00

The property briefly comprises what appears to be a 5 bedroomed millers house that needs complete restoration but has internally 3 separate open fireplaces, one of which has a bread oven. Detached and below the house is the original corn mill in stone, which would have had an overshot water wheel and as with the main house is in need of complete renovation. There are other building structures around the house but these are more dilapidated. The land has river meadows with a central stream. There are further paddocks rising up the hill towards the entrance lane in pasture, the whole having become overgrown and just to the edge of the property there is a modern timber framed general purpose barn, about 30 ft x 30 ft. The property as a whole is about 15 acres. Ideal for investment or as a project property.
