Staffordshire property auction sees lively bidding

Interest in property auctions shows no signs of waning with a packed attendance at an estate agent's recent sale paying above the guide value in many cases and almost all the properties going to new owners.

Around 200 people packed into the latest property auction held by Bury and Hilton at Westwood Golf Club, Leek, and after spirited bidding eight out of nine lots sold – an 89 per cent success rate.

Highlight of the evening was the sale of Ivy Cottage, Clerks Bank, Ipstones, which is a two-bedroomed detached cottage in one and a quarter acres of land and in need of modernisation and improvement.

The property generated considerable interest with competitive bidding, exceeding its price guide of £200,000-£250,000, and the hammer finally came down to the new owner at £281,000.

A two-bedroomed, semi-detached house in semi-rural location, 19 High Lane, Cheddleton Heath – also in need of renovation and improvement – eventually sold for £95,500 against a guide price of £90,000.

Three houses in Stoke-on-Trent all exceeded their price guides.
