Living by the seaside...

Is what I would LOVE to be doing right now, on this glorious sunny day... but where would I get the most value for my money?

Here are the 10 most expensive seaside towns in Britain according to Halifax, followed by the average house price:

1. Salcombe, South West, £672,874

2. Sandbanks, South West, £614,726

3. Aldeburgh, East Anglia, £413,393

4. Lymington, South East, £404,781

5. Dartmouth, South West, £403,767

6. Padstow, South West, £387,109

7. Lyme Regis, South West, £343,604

8. Budleigh Salterton, South West, £342,442

9. Bigbury on Sea, South West, £333,626

10. East Wittering, South East, £330,146

And here are the 10 least expensive seaside towns in Britain according to Halifax (who based their research using house price figures from the Land Registry and the Registers of Scotland) followed by the average house price:

1. Port Bannatyne, Scotland, £73,539

2. Newbiggin by the Sea, North, £81,339

3. Campbeltown, Scotland, £85,659

4. Thurso, Scotland, £88,500

5. Girvan, Scotland, £89,064

6. Wick, Scotland, £90,124

7. Saltcoats, Scotland, £90,583

8. Stranraer, Scotland, £90,590

9. Withernsea, Yorkshire and the Humber, £92,868

10. Irvine, Scotland, £93,736

So, although it looks like I'd need to go north of the English border to secure a lower cost seaside home (and I did used to holiday in Stranraer when I was a kid), I do so love Devon, so I suppose I'd better start saving up my pennies!
