Three top auctioneers reunite for bumper national property auction

The combined talents of three top experts helped property sellers around the country get great results in SDL Auctions’ largest auction ever – and the UK’s biggest in August for 12 years.

The eighth lockdown auction held by the SDL Auctions, the UK’s most successful live-streamed auctioneer* saw Andrew Parker, Rory Daly and Graham Penny reunited – but socially distanced – in the company’s head office studio to sell a catalogue of 200+ lots.

The national property auction got off to an excellent start with a series of lots in Leicester, the first selling for more than twice its guide price.

Requiring full modernisation and refurbishment, once completed 163 Canon Street has the potential for a rental income of around £795 per calendar month. It sold for £212,500 from a guide price of £100,000+.

Managing director and auctioneer Andrew Parker said: “This was a fantastic way to start our August auction and a great result for both the buyer and seller. There was a lot of competition for this property and the new owner can now begin turning it into a highly desirable family home, adding value to their investment.”

Family homes proved popular in the auction, with a three bedroomed detached in Tamworth selling particularly well.

42 Sudeley, which is located in a well-presented housing estate in Dosthill, requires some modernisation and redecoration but provides well-proportioned accommodation including two reception rooms, kitchen with utility room, driveway, garage and gardens. It sold for £238,000 from a guide price of £185,000+.

Heading north into Wales, a two-up, two-down cottage in Holywell sold for £45,000 from a guide price of £28,000+. 8A Well Street has a lounge and kitchen on the ground floor, and a bedroom and bathroom on the first floor.  It is close to St Winefride’s Well, the ancient pilgrimage site which gives the town its name, and just a short drive from the beach.

Andrew said: “This is a pretty little cottage which would make a perfect first home for a couple or a holiday retreat for those seeking a quiet location. The buyer has made an excellent investment and we’re delighted to get such a good result for the seller, too.”

In the North East, more than 30 properties went under the hammer and achieved a 100% success rate. Among the properties were 28 Hawthorn Crescent in Horden, Peterlee, a three bedroomed maisonette which sold for £29,000 from a guide price of £8,000+, and nearby, 132 Helford Road in Peterlee, a two bedroomed second-floor flat which sold for £18,000 from a guide price of £5,000+.

The auction saw a wide variety of lots being sold, including houses, flats, commercial properties and land.

In Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, a parcel of land at 30-32 Spring Road, being sold in partnership with Ashfield District Council, attracted a huge amount of attention from bidders, selling for £115,000 from a guide price of £50,000. The land, with a derelict building, has been unoccupied for several years and could be suitable for development, subject to the necessary planning permissions.

Andrew added: “It was great to be back in our auction studio and to have Rory and Graham back on the rostrum, too. We’ve been delighted with the way buyers and sellers have embraced our live-streamed auctions and, with their support, our national property auctions have gone from strength to strength, making us the leading live-streamed auctioneer in the country.”

The next national property auction will be held on Wednesday, 30th September.
