SVA ACHIEVES 100% SUCCESS FOR LIVE-STREAMED AUCTION

SVA Property Auctions, Scotland’s independent property auction company, achieved 100% success for its November auction with all 7 lots sold, six of which were sold on the day, under the hammer.

Says Shaun Vigers, SVA director and auctioneer: “This was our final auction of 2022, a year in which we sold 44 out of 45 lots and raised almost £2.5 million. With multiple bidders registered for most of the lots, we were expecting to finish on a high and prepared for bidding to be intense and competitive. And on the day the virtual room certainly lived up to that expectation, featuring robust bidding and moments of high drama.”

One of the most fiercely contested auction lots was a section of former rail bed, adjacent to Oban Airport, which eventually sold for £68,500, more than six times the guide price of £10,000. The lot attracted a wide range of buyers, both locals as well as bidders from further afield, but the final £8,000 of bidding was a two way battle between several local parties.

The lot on Burnfield Road, Giffnock, was also set to be a scene of competitive bidding, with 8 bidders registered prior to auction. The property boasted an income producing workshop, a yard with vacant offices, a basement workshop and parking in a busy area on Glasgow’s Southside, strategically positioned amongst commercial, retail and residential properties. Guided at £130,000 SVA auctioneers were confident the hammer would fall considerably higher than that, but the final bid of £210,000 was significantly in excess of the best expectations. The successful bidder let it be known he intends to keep the tenant on and let the vacant areas.

Scottish Water sites, regularly brought to SVA’s auctions as surplus assets, often surprise by the enthusiasm with which they are met in the auction room. And the redundant tank and weir sites at the remote Glenachulish, south of Ballachulish, was a case in point. Guided at £12,000, the water and waste treatment works site comprises a regularly shaped, sloping fenced area housing a small building, a fibreglass kiosk and a range of largely underground tanks and valves. The lot eventually sold under the hammer for £27,000 after the 13 registered bidders, the most for any of the lots offered, fought it out with great commitment and determination.

The first auction of the 2023 programme will take place on Wednesday 22nd February at 2pm and will be a live streamed event.
