SDL Property Auctions targets London and the South with appointment of regional new business manager

SDL Property Auctions has appointed a regional new business manager to target London and the South.

After more than 15 years in estate agency,  including roles with Barnard Marcus (part of the Sequence Group) and, more recently, Chancellors, Ryan Power has joined the UK’s most successful live-streamed auctioneer to build relationships with agents in the region.

He said: “I’ve been in the property industry for all of my working life, both in estate agency and land development, but I am now a complete convert to the auctions method. The efficiency of auctions has been underlined by the turbulence the past year has brought – it provides speed and certainty that private treaty just cannot match.”

Despite the difficulties of the pandemic, Ryan has been busy building relationships and has already partnered with more than 80 estate agents in the region, reaching out remotely over the phone, via video calls and on social media. He has seen particularly positive results from Instagram, gaining an average of one client a month in this way.

I’ve always been very target-driven and love connecting with both old and new contacts so am relishing the challenge of spreading the word about auctions in general and SDL Property Auctions in particular. There’s a reason we are now the UK’s most successful live-streamed auctioneer and I am proud to be part of a team which is committed to reinforcing our position at the top.”

Ryan is committed to ensuring all estate agents in the region understand just how much they could earn from auctions.

He said: “Most agents will have a property on their books which is suitable for an auction sale. And at an average sale price of £400,000 – typical of this region – even if they only sell one property per month with us, they could earn £136,500 in a year.”

Ryan is keen to dispel any long-held misconceptions that many people have about auction properties.

“We don’t just deal with refurbishment terraces and hard-to-sell properties – auctions are becoming a popular way of getting fast results for homes in all conditions and at all prices. We’ve had some great results for some very impressive high-value properties in the region recently.”

2020 was  an exciting year for Ryan, who not only embarked on a new chapter of his working life in the middle of a pandemic but welcomed a new baby into the family. Born on 11th November, Isabella is a sister for two-year-old Aidan.

Working from his Surrey home, Ryan is also building new business while the property market is in turmoil. But he said the difficult market conditions mean there has never been a better time for estate agents to give auction sales a try.

“The pandemic has made auctions more popular with private sellers and, because they are so fast and certain – with virtually no risk of sales falling through – more estate agents are telling their customers about us.

“Auctions really are a win-win for everyone. The buyer and seller save loads of time and the estate agent gets paid within 48 hours of the auction ending, instead of having to wait several months. As well as the speed, most estate agents in this country will get more money from an auction sale and, in the current climate, it’s an excellent way to ensure you beat the stamp duty holiday deadline.”

Managing director and auctioneer Andrew Parker said: “We are delighted to welcome Ryan into our auctions team. He joined us in one of the most challenging years the property industry - indeed any industry – has faced but this has not dampened his enthusiasm and drive. He brings with him a wealth of experience and has already proved a great asset to the team.”
