A parade of high-profile Sheffield shops, and a bungalow in one of the ‘best plots in the area’, both of which sold for nearly twice their guide prices, saw Mark Jenkinson and Son’s April auction hit sales of £5.25m.

In the third online auction of the year – described by the auctioneer as ‘exceptional’ – 27 of the 30 lots sold for £5.25m, after a total of 1,134 bids were made by 123 bidders.

The top price of the day was £750,000 for the parade on Chesterfield Road, Woodseats. The shops – three of which are let, and all requiring varying degrees of refurbishment – had a guide price of £400,000-£450,000.  

The three-bedroom detached bungalow, in need of complete modernisation and close to Whirlow Hall Farm, had a guide price of £350,000 but sold for nearly twice at £662,000.

Adrian Little, Head of the Auction Department at Mark Jenkinson and Son, said: “There were more than 100 viewings for this, our most popular lot – a basic 1970s bungalow in one of the best plots in the area, backing onto Broad Elms Lane and occupying a corner plot of 0.34 acres.”

Several other Sheffield houses sold well above their estimate, including a semi-detached house divided into two self-contained flats on Derbyshire Lane on with a guide price of £140,000 which sold for £260,000.

Meanwhile a four-bedroom inner terraced house on Ecclesall Road – previously let to students and in need of modernisation, with adjoining commercial and residential premises – was listed for £175,000 but went for £213,000.

And a four-bedroom semi-detached house on Burngreave Road, with driveway and gardens and also requiring complete modernisation, sold for £168,000 after a guide price of £110,000.

Adrian added: "There is a shortage of properties on the market – possibly due to COVID. People are also online more, and our online auctions are working really well – we had buyers from as far as Carlisle in the north and Kent in the south.

“We have seen unprecedented demand over the last few weeks, but this was exceptional.

“It is our third online sale of the year which has now seen 80 of the 89 lots sold for £13.13m in total so far.”
