Zoopla's most popular property goes to auction after failing to sell

An Art Deco-style home in Blackwood which needs “extensive” renovation has gone up for auction after failing to sell.

The property, which was the most popular property in Wales on Zoopla during October last year after it went on the market, is called Shangri La.

It went on sale priced at £300,000 last September and almost 19,000 prospective buyers viewed the Grade II listed home on Zoopla over the next 30 days.

The double fronted, three bed room house is now for sale through Paul Fosh Auctions with a guide price of £170,000 plus.

Keri Harding-Jones, of Paul Fosh Auctions, said: “It’s a one off property with unique, contemporary architectural features and details.

"The property requires complete refurbishment but does retain a number of original features including a stunning stained glass picture window and balcony.”

Whoever buys the three-bedroom house on Bryn Road, Pontllanfraith will have to work with CADW to bring it back to its former glory as it is “a very rare example of this style of modern suburban house in the South Wales Valleys”.

The 1930s detached home has 0.68 acre of gardens and is close to the town centre. The building sits in a slightly elevated position and comprises of an entrance hall, two reception rooms, a kitchen, utility and separate sun room to the ground floor.

The three bedrooms and bathroom are on the first floor, and Shangri La’s master-bedroom has access to the roof terrace and the second bedroom has a glazed door leading to the balcony.

The property also boasts a detached double garage and garden shed.

It will go up for auction on Thursday, April 2, at the Park Inn Hotel, Circle Way East, Llanedyrn, Cardiff, at 5pm.
