Former care homes star in SDL Auctions Bigwood’s Birmingham auction

Two former residential care homes are both expected to attract competitive bidding in the next SDL Auctions Bigwood auction at Aston Villa FC in Birmingham on Wednesday 18 July.

One of these is a four-bedroomed detached bungalow at 210 Little Sutton Lane in Sutton Coldfield which until recently was used as a care facility, with a *guide price in excess of £500,000.

The other is a 20 bedroomed property called Brook House at 30 Berners Street in Lozells, Birmingham, set back from the road behind substantial gardens and with plenty of car parking, with a guide price of £400,000+.

Gurpreet Bassi, head of residential auctions at SDL Auctions Bigwood, said: “The smaller former care facility has a guide price reflective of its highly desirable location in Sutton Coldfield, where four bedroomed bungalows are quite rare.

“Meanwhile, the Lozells lot was purpose-built as a care home and therefore, as well as the 20 bedrooms, it has a range of extra space including kitchens, offices and large dining, living and laundry rooms.

“Both of these former care homes present great investment opportunities as they would be suitable for conversion to a number of alternative uses, subject to planning consents.”

The auction catalogue also has a wide range of properties suitable for renovation, including two semi-detached, three bedroomed houses at 3 Warden Road in Boldmere, Sutton Coldfield, with a guide price in excess of £100,000, and 70 Lyndon Road in Olton, Solihull, with a guide price in excess of £150,000.

Mr Bassi added: “These properties both need refurbishment and are typical of the great opportunities we have for investors keen on turning properties around for rent or sale.”
