Arresting results as SDL Auctions Bigwood tops £16m

It’s a fair cop! The former Perry Barr police station was the stand out lot at SDL Auctions Bigwood’s auction at Aston Villa FC which raised over £16 million and saw 125 lots sold under the hammer.

Fierce bidding saw the hammer fall at a spectacular £820,000 after it was offered with a guide price of £275,000.

Warstock Neighbourhood Police Office also sold well for £300,000 from a guide price of £150,000.

Outstanding results included:

A semi-detached 3 bedroomed house at 42 Belton Avenue in Wednesfield which sold for £132,000 from a guide price of £50,000.     A semi-detached 3 bedroomed property at 4 Laburnum Road, Worcester which raised £107,000 from a guide price of £30,000.     A 3 bedroomed bungalow at 71 Castle Road, Tipton, went for £176,000 from a guide price of £50,000.     And a semi-detached 3 bedroomed house at 45 Drews Holloway, Halesowen, which raised £118,000 from a guide price of £30,000.

The pace was set on Wednesday 6 September by the five early lots – all land for sale in Birmingham which all sold very well, with the pick of the crop being a plot of land fronting Victoria Road, Aston, which sold for £136,000 from a guide price of £40,000.

Equally successful were the sales of development sites at King Street in Bedworth, Straits Road in Lower Gornal, Dudley, and land at 53 Front Street in Wingate, County Durham.

Commercial property also fared well with 200 Bradford Street in Digbeth, Birmingham, selling for £151,000 from a guide price of £50,000 and former NatWest bank branches in Whitchurch, Lutterworth, Oakham Coalville and Leicestershire all selling.

Gurpreet Bassi, head of residential auctions Midlands, said: “The strong interest and fierce bidding we experienced at our July auction continued unabated into our September auction, with not only competition in the room at the Holte Suite, but also many remote bidders by phone, proxy and internet.

“The number of bidders visiting from London and the south east in general was also noticeable, with investors looking for greater value and enhanced returns outside of their overheated home market.

“We are now looking forward to our next Birmingham auction on Wednesday 18 October and already experiencing high levels of interest.

“We would ask those interested in selling to make early contact so that we can maximise viewing opportunities for potential buyers and give longer marketing lead-in times.”
