247 bids at final Symonds and Sampson auction

West Country auctioneer Symonds and Sampson has announced the results of its final auction of the year, which attracted 247 bids across 16 lots. Taking place at a packed Digby Hall in Sherborne, the auction boasted a catalogue with an eclectic mix of properties including land with building potential, agricultural land, houses for improvement and investments. The greatest excitement of the day was for Corner Ground at Hazelbury, a single storey cottage for renovation with outbuildings and gardens in a rural location.  Symonds and Sampson said that in the run up to the event, it was inundated with interest from buyers all over the south of England. On the day there was strong bidding in the room which culminated in the lot selling for £200,000, £80,000 above the £120,000 guide price. Another room filler, according to the firm, was a ‘romantic’ parcel of land at Wareham, known as Breach Lake, consisting of a 4.5 acre fresh water lake and adjoining woodland of 25 acres. Sitting in the foot of the Purbeck Hills, the site – perfect for fishing – sold for £252,000 after 34 bids and a starting price of £220,000. Auctioneer Mark Lewis said he was very pleased with the results and the fact that the auction attracted a range of buyers from London, the Home Counties and throughout the Symonds & Sampson region.
